Yike Bike Launch Today.

The Yike Bike, "created up by a bunch of successful entrepreneurs, engineers and dreamers" Is to be launched today in London. The bikes design is based around a Penny Farthing and the shape has been dubbed a Mini Farthing. This however is where it leaves its similarities of a normal bicycle at the door and becomes more of a space age personal transport machine. With built in indicators and lights it is more of a motorbike than a bicycle but will it kick off?

Weighing in at just under 10kg, the Yike Bike can also be folded down into a bag so you can carry it about when it runs out of battery, or when you arrive at your destination, whichever comes first. Battery life gives you a 7-8km range so you better make sure you charge it up when you get to work. No doubt however its "portablness" will be a hit with city commuters and also its 20kph top speed, but what about the other issues that the Yike Bike brings with it? Are there any? Well expense is the main issue here and one that will make most people shy away from it. That means those that use the Tube on a day to day basis will be pushing themselves to afford one at $7000. At that price your getting into car money.

That means then that this isnt for those on the tube, they can just go and buy a pushbike. This is then designed for those who drive on our cities in big urban gas guzzling child killers, and this is where, i think at least, the problem starts.

Will this bike rid our cities of cars? The answer is simple, No. My reasoning is also simple you see those who drive cars into the city don't do it because they have to, because they don't. They want to, they want to pay £8 a day so that they can tear down Regent St at 3mph. Those people don't want to be seen riding around on a poking little thing when they can take their Bentley out in the morning, and if they were to see a "Yike Bike" from the back seat of their cow covered luxury they would simply ask Henry to "knock it over".

The only way that cars will leave our cities, is with an all out ban, and although the Yike Bike is trying, I'm sorry guys but its failure is inevitable.
